Legendary Pentangle to play Bungay
North Suffolk music lovers can expect an evening of musical magic when Jacqui McShee’s legendary Pentangle appears at The Fisher Theatre, Bungay on Friday 21 September.
Although Pentangle's style has been labelled 'jazz-folk' their music defies pigeonholing and the band's wide ranging repertoire will appeal to most musical tastes.
"We're really looking forward to playing Bungay" says singer Jacqui McShee. Although the venue is new to us we have played in Suffolk many times in the past and have always found the local audience to be musically informed and warm".
Pentangle expanded the frontiers of folk music in the 1960s and since then, the various line-ups have continued to make groundbreaking music. One thing has remained constant, however – Jacqui McShee's unique voice is always to the fore. The current line-up is Jacqui McShee on vocals, Gerry Conway on drums and percussion, Spencer Cozens on keyboards, Alan Thompson on bass, and Gary Foot on saxophone and flute.
This has been an eventful year for Pentangle. In February, the band was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony in London. In early summer, Sanctuary Records released a 4-CD box set covering the band's forty-year career: the compilation has sold strongly and raised the band's profile. Later this year, Pentangle's current line-up will feature in a new DVD to be released on the Park Records label.
As a bonus, the Bungay concert will feature an opening slot by up-and-coming solo singer/songwriter Ella Edmondson, daughter of Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson.
