Will Miles
'Out From The Shallow Water' is the debut release from London based singer songwriter Will Miles. This is very much a personal album; as well as writing, arranging, playing all guitars and singing both lead and backing vocals Miles co-produced the album with bassist / pianist Sean Douglas.
Most tracks on 'out from the shallow water' start slow, gets big and rocky whilst remaining dark throughout. The violin of Carly Frey waves in and out which, together with some understated slide and a smattering (OK, on the heavy blues thump of 'Blue Haven' it's a bit more than a smattering) harmonica do enough to keep things interesting.
The only criticism that can be levelled is that just as the beautiful, haunting 'Angella' finishes, so does the album. After seven tracks you should be rounding the final bend ready for the home straight not crossing the finishing line. I think that 'Out From The Shallow Water' bodes well for future releases from Will Miles.
