The Superimposers
An early summer sigh from the hazy world of The Superimposers, this three-track capsule of consummate cool is well worth tracking down.
The title track channels Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, The Association's Insight Out and Sounds Orchestral's Pictures In Stereo, with a lyric that marks a darker, almost world weary, twist on their trademark optimism. Championed on 6Music by the likes of Gideon Coe and Jarvis Cocker, in a sane world People will carry The Superimposers into the wider consciousness.
Besides continues in a similar vein with vintage keyboard (melodeon?) figures trading licks with a cascading, jazzy guitar, offbeat bass and singer Dan Solo's impassive vocal asides.
A retooling of previous single Seeing Is Believing by Manchester dance duo J-Walk, whose Night on the Rocks album was one of the last decade's great lost treasures, completes the set. They've injected the original's baroque pop stomp with some vintage (northern) soul grease, slavered on some creamy Ray Manzarek-esque organ and tickled up a smattering of acid dub effects to produce a glistening sonic journey to swing discerning dancefloors up and down the land.
