It's not so much that 'Mockingbird Time' is the eighth studio album by the Jayhawks that has made it so hugely anticipated, nor is it that it is the bands first release for eight years, it is the first Jayhawks that features both founding members Mark Olson and Garry Louris since 1995's 'Tomorrow The Green Grass'.
Fans of the Jayhawks cannot fail to be satisfied with Mockingbird Time. The harmonies are there, the melodies are there, everything is there. 'Tiny Arrows' is an instant classic, right up there with 'Blue' and 'Waiting For the Sun (from 'Tomorrow The Green Grass' and 'Hollywood Town Hall' respectively).
The majority of this album conforms to the Jayhawks template - If Olson had not have left 'Stand Out In The Rain' and 'Cinnamon Love' could have been written in '96 or '97 but 'High Water Blues' is a touch harsher and points to this band not just being about rediscovering past glories.
