Mark Wynn
Album: Stories, Rags & Stomps
Label: Self Released
Tracks: 9

There is something refreshingly old fashioned about Mark Wynn. An itinerant musician; busking streets and coach stations, playing cafes ,bars ,theatres and even cow sheds; sleeping on peoples floors and getting stoned.

He is almost straight out of central casting as a 60's/70's folkie. And in this age of over produced, over hyped, award orientated "discoveries" his independent honest approach is to be applauded. His third album "Stories, Rags and Stomps" is a collection of love songs, sad songs and a few stories written while on the road. Simply realized, largely acoustic, with some good straightforward guitar picking and the occasional piano and banjo it is nothing flashy, just sweetly competent.

Mark calls himself a country/blues singer but he inhabits that world of rainy streets and dirty old towns beloved of the Northern singer/songwriter. He name checks George Jones and Lefty Frizzell but he is firmly of the British tradition and has more in common with the late lamented Bert Jansch and Roy Harper.

Stand out tunes on this 9 track album are the opening "Girl a mine" with its subtle guitar lines; track 3, "Sad Stoned" with minimal guitar and piano; and "World Can Wait" with its slight banjo backing. At £5 a time it ain't going to break the bank and is fully deserving of a spin. Check it out on.
