Ellie Lawson
Whilst there is still a glut of radio friendly singer/songwriters with a radio friendly acoustic pop style, there is also scope for one with that little bit extra, to be able to turn a head or an ear and make you stop what you're doing and just listen, Ellie Lawson sounds like she's got that bit extra.
She's got a sort of Andrew Sisters drawl to the way she vocalises and it works surprisingly well on her self penned folk pop numbers, giving her song a distinctive sound. Rich almost lush backing gives her voice plenty to work with and a percussionist that knows how to give a song a lift without the beat dominating.
The "Lost Without You" EP is more than long enough to hook you into her sound, which also seems to find a latin beat, whilst remaining short enough to know that she's left you on that precipice of wanting more and the frustration of know it's not there.
I'm a sucker for whistling songs, especially when they are done right and let me assure you the second track on the ep, "Change The Way" definitely does it right. In fact right is a good word for "Lost Without You" buoyant, uplifting and entertaining can be added in equal measure. Looking forward to hearing more..
