Back On The Battlefield

Battlefield Band Glasgow ABC Jan24th

It's not often that we feature a forthcoming gig in the news section, but then again it's not often the Battlefield Band of old meet the Battlefield Band of new, but that's exactly what's happening at Glasgow ABC on the 24th of January as part of Celtic Connections

The great thing is that one musician, Alan Reid links both ends of this great bridge. At the most recently painted end, you'll find Alan and his current band members Mike Katz, Sean O'Donnell and Alasdair White at the end with character, you'll find his former fellow musicians, Brian McNeill, Ged Foley and Duncan MacGillivray, for what promises to be one of those nights to remember.

as well as playing music from the current selection of songs and tunes, the combined forces will be reaching back into, what many regard to be the band's pivotal album, "Home Is Where The Van Is", a reference to the extensive touring the band embarked on back them and since.

Whilst the line up of the band has changed over the years, once including John McCusker, two other things link the days of "Home Is Where The Van Is", Robin Morton produced the album and continues to do so and the band continue to release albums on Temple Records.

Home Is Where The Van Is" was the first album released by the band in America, a country they have returned to many times both as a band and as individual musicians. It's a reverse trip for Mike Katz who originated on the other side of the pond.

This is going to be one of those I was there nights, even if you weren't it might be a good time to reacquaint yourself with a landmark album. They don't come along all that often.
