It encouraged and produced many excellent local musicians, whilt notably attracting many famous top class performers such as Arlo Guthrie, Fleetwood Mac, Bert Jansch, Mimi Baez & many more at the clubs original venue, The Cellar Club.
After eleven fruitful years the club ended, but in 1986 Ashington Folk Club began at it's current venue, The Miners Institute. Again the club brings many national and international artists of the folk circuit to Wansbeck
The club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month to provide music and arts entertainment as a forum and to actively link up with local arts initiatives.
The club welcomes and encourages the singing and playing of a wide range of musical genres as well as folk e.g. blues, ragtime, country, rock 'n' roll and pop.
