44th Cambridge Folk Festival

Megson

We've always had an affinity with Megson. They were the first band to be awarded five stars for an album on the revived Fatea website
Consisting of Debbie and Stu, Megson have consistently delivered quality recordings and live performances. That quality has seen them become favourites on the folk circuit, heavily in demand amongst the clubs.
Their dedication to the live scene has seen them playing Cambridge Folk Festival before, off their own back and as guests of one of the clubs that take a turn in running the Club Tent
This year sees them deservedly promoted to the full festival bill, recognition for the band's talent and graft.
It's also sort of a late wedding present as Stu and Debs got married at the end of last year.
Megson tend to draw on the darkside of folk's tradition, but are not without their lighter moments, both in their self penned and researched songs
More recently the band have started bringing other acts onto their own label and Stu has been getting more into production, including the recent Benji Kirkpatrick album

Post Festival Thoughts

Megson opened the festival in The Club Tent and a grand job they made of it. Having got over the shock of being introduced as a Tyneside band, a mistake they quickly corrected, they were soon well into their stride
They played songs from both the dark and lighter side of life and went down well. They had a second set on the Sunday night that we couldn't get to. Hopefully back on a bigger stage soon.
Megson have a new album out soon and a track, "Jane Jamieson's Ghost" on the Fatea Showcase Sessions Autumn 08:Duos download.
