Lisa Knapp is an artist that seemed to ghost onto the folk scene, emerging, chrysalis like into a butterfly from who knows where. And just as butterflies can cause hurricanes in America, Lisa Knapp has been creating waves on the folk scene.
Her performance as a showcase artist in the Club Tent last year was packed full as she delivered a set that showed why her "Wild And Undaunted" album was being hailed as a folk masterpiece in some quarters. A mistress of a number of different instruments, Knapp is also the possessor of a voice that evokes the folk revival of the late sixties/early seventies. 2008 sees Knapp promoted to the festival bill proper and hopefully to the wider audience that she has been working hard to reach.
Her style, though contempoary, has drawn heavily on the tradition and it's allowed Lisa to appeal to folk fans young and old, as well as carve her own furrow that gives her a distinction when set alongside the current oestrogen fired generation of folk singers.
Having seen Lisa Knapp in the Club Tent last year, this is one we're definitely going to be catching on a broader stage.
