Karine Polwart
Karine Polwart has been very busy over the last year or so, releasing two albums, "The Fairest Floo'er" and "This Earthly Spell" in quick succession. The albums highlighting the two aspects of Karine. The former reflecting Karine's love of
traditional songs, mainly performed in Gaelic. The latter showcasing Polwart's talents as a writer, as well as performer and mainly recorded in English.
Fronted by the highly charismatic Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh Altan really are a fantastic example of a band that's grown from small acorns into mighty oaks without having to compromise along the way. They have taken the music of Donegal global. One
of the reasons for that has been the stability of the band. Considering the length of time the band have been together there have been very few changes during their multi-album career. Albums recorded for both indie and major record labels
Live music has always been at the heart of Altan, named after a local loch. When founding member Frankie Kennedy died, music classes were set up in his honour to try and encourage other locals to take up the instruments and playing. As you might
expect this one will be on a lot of people's must see lists.
