44th Cambridge Folk Festival

Hot 8 Brass Band

New Orleans gets well represented at this year's festival. If Allen Toussaint represents it's pre Katrina highdays and holidays, then Hot 8 Brass band represent the post Katrina rivival of the city's brass tradition. True they were founded in '95, but it was Spike Lee's, "When The Levees Broke: A Requiem For Four Acts" in 2006, that catapaulted them into the public eye.
New Orleans has a reputation as a violent city, it's not unfounded. Over the years, three members of the band have been shot dead, two to gangland violence, one the victim of a bullet intended for his step son, the other executed in escalating gangland violence. The third by police officers, either acting in self defence or shooting an unarmed man with his hands in the air, depending on which account you go for. It's not surprising then to find that the Hot 8 Brass band still play funerals.
Not really sure what to expect, but with this much brass inone place, expect fireworks
