Cruel Folk
Cruel Folk have become festival regulars the hard way, queueing up and booking a slot. From the performances we've seen from Sean and Paul Holder, a.k.a. Cruel Folk we hope you'll get the chance to see them play the club tent this year.
As the name suggests, the duo draw on folk's darker heritage for their material, murder, sex and banditary can often be found in their songs, sometimes within just one number.
There's a lot more to their act than the body count, they play with passion and skill, they convey their love of the music to the audience with ease. They've go the patter as well as the ability.
Their most recent outing on the recordings front was a track on the Fatea Showcase Sessions:Duos free download, but rumours of a full album persist
Keep your eye on the Folk Club Boards to see when they're playing.
Post Festival Thoughts
Cruel Folk managed to get themselves a session in the Club Tent and a second gig out at Coldhams Common. They played three songs, two of which "Worst Nightmare" and "Greenwood Tree" feature on the band's new album "Love, Loyalty & Other Lies".
The set, as the name implies, was dark, though not without humour and a lower body count than last year. This was good honest folk music, well performed and fun to be in the presence of.
If you check out the features section, you can read the diary of the planning that goes into getting a Club Tent gig.
