6 Day Riot
All the fun of the horse drawn travelling fairs, burlesque music hall, gypsy weddings and funerals and a hint of Bluegrass, puts you on the road to understanding where 6 Day Riot are coming from and maybe where they're going to.
The music has a very good time quality to it, it sort of reminds me of some of the songs KT Tunstall performed with Oi-Va-Voi, but don't just allow youirself to get swayed by the music or even Tamara Schlesinger delightfully and enchanting vocal.
If you do you'll be missing out on a third key aspect of the band the lyric. The songs are witty, 6 Day Riot have a left field take on the world and know how to turn that into words and phrasing.
If there really is a new London Folk Scene, then there's no reason why 6 Day Riot shouldn't be a major factor in it, no reason why they shouldn't make a big impact outside of the smoke either. String, percussion, vocal and even the odd trumpet working in harmony.
There's not a lot more you can ask of a band, except to deliver on the day and all the indications are 6 Day Riot are more than capabale of that.
Really looking forward to this one.
