43rd Cambridge Folk Festival

Ruthie Foster

Call it soul, call it gosple, call it blues, call it spiritual, whatever you want to call it, the only label it needs is Ruthie Foster. There are few artists that can get away with sticking the word phenomenal in front of their name on an album cover. Judging by the sales, Ruthie Foster is now one of them.
She's a woman that seems to enjoy festivals and festivals agree with her. At a Canadian festival, she broke Ani Di Franco's record by selling over 1000 cds in a day. She's bold and she's brassy, who knows maybe she'll break Kate Rusby's signing record, so long as she remembers the red wine.
I'm not going to stick superlatives onto an artist that describes themself as phenomenal, all I will say is that she backs her sass up with a voice that many would kill or sell their soul for. (Did anyone see this girl at a crossroads with a cloven footed guy). She plays a pretty good guitar too.
