Nanci Griffith
The last time Nanci Griffith played Cambridge was in 1992. Back then FATEA was still a paper magazine and concert cds were released weeks,
if not months after the event rather than on the night. Nanci's 1992 gig here was captured for prosterity.
Back then her blend of country and tales was know as folkabilly as it brought a new twist on Americana. It's a twist that's influenced a number
of similar minded singer-songwriters and argueably has become more of a mainstream sound. What is less arguable is Griffith's contribution, both as
a songwriter and as an interpreter of songs.
She has a rare gift of giving a song a flavour. Even when she hasn't penned the song herself, she makes it her own. It's a gift that extends to the
stage. Whilst Griffith isn't the most dynamic of performers, she has the ability to captivate, sometimes to the point where you could here a pin drop.
