43rd Cambridge Folk Festival

Joan Baez

As well as being a folk legend, Joan Baez is also the most famous visitor to the Cambridge duck pond, having been deposited in it by her crew on her last visit to the festival bar one.(No ducks were hurt in the incident).
Joan is known for pulling the odd surprise. The last time she played Cambridge, the 36th festival, she put in a very unexpected guest appearance at the Club Tent. Fatea were the only team there to cover the occasion and the pictures can be found on our 2000 website. Consequently, you never really know what's going to happen around Joan and that helps keep both her and her music fresh
You don't get the reputation that Joan Baez has got on the back of a couple of lucky breaks. Baez is both singer and campaigner she knows an injustice when she sees it. She knows that to be true to it's roots folk needs to be about events and causes as it does people and emotion. I would suggest that this is one that you miss at your peril.
