Bruce Cockburn
Despite twenty six plus albums, a clutch of Junos and a career going back almost forty years, there's something about Bruce Cockburn, pronounced Coughburn, that
just fails to float my boat. I'm not sure that I can put my finger on the thing that does it, but there's something about this Christian folk rocker that just leaves me
feeling cold.
It's not that the Canadian Cliff Richard, is afraid to tackle the issues, there are good causes, well presented in a highly political way. He can certainly write songs. It
might be that the remedy is too simplistic, maybe it's that he lacks the performance agression that his songs warrent, I don't know for sure. I just know that, on record at
least I think Cockburn sells me short.
I was similarly underwhelmed by his live performance on the only occasion I've seen him in the flesh. Cockburn has his fans. You don't survive forty odd years without them, without
something. He may yet prove me wrong, but somehow I doubt it.
