43rd Cambridge Folk Festival

C.J. Chenier & The Red Hot Louisiana Band

Son of Zydeco legend, Clifton Chenier, Clayton Joseph(C.J.) Chenier, grew up away from his father and originally had little interest in the zydeco genre.
He played sax and keyboard initially, before a call came from his father asking him to join his band, The Red Hot Louisiana Band. As he toured with the band, C.J.'s interest in zydeco increased. He taught himself to play the accordion and as Clifton Chenier's health started to fail, C.J. took an ever increasing role in the band. Eventually he came to inherit not only the band, but his dad's accprdion to boot. Whilst none of the orginal band remains, it's a band that knows it's roots.
It's also a band that knows how to put adeptations into the music, so whilst it doesn't always play the pure form of the music, it does keep it's twist contemporary with the tradition.
Basically it's party time and it's been a while since the Cambridge Folk Festival party was driven by zydeco. If the weather's as hot as a Louisianna bordello when this band take to the the stage expect the party to get hot and sweaty.
