43rd Cambridge Folk Festival

Allison Moorer

Cambridge has always been a family festival, not just for the visitors, but also for the artists. Backstage teams with kids, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives. Occasionally kids, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives are all in the same band, on other occasions they play in different acts and thats the case with Allison Moorer, aka Mrs Steve Earle.
That looks a littel unfair, it's not meant to suggest that Moorer's succes and that of Earle are linked, more that the family of musicians occasionally become real family and vica versa . Moorer is a stand alone talent. She had already produced some excellent albums and great songs before she became an opening act for Steve Earle. Like Earle she has a tough backgrounds. Originally from Alabama, her parents died in a murder-suicide event when she was just fourteen. Needless to say, this has cast a long shadow on Moorer, who was just fourteen at the time. Things are looking up for Moorer, she says she's the happiest she's ever been at any point in her life. Her powerchord heavy, dirty country provides a juxta position to the clear and pure country that many think about when the words country music are mentioned. Definitely one that intrigues
