42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Van Eyken

When Tim Van Eyken played his debut solo set at Cambridge back in 1999 as the winner of The Young Tradition Award, there was a murmer that he would go on and achieve great things. As a solo winner he was never going to be impacted by the college curse that hits so many bands that win the award. Quite the opposite in fact.
Tim has been collected as part of folk supergroups for quite a while now. Touring the globe with the likes of Waterson Carthy and Dr. Faustus. His recognised as one of the best accordion players that this country has produced in a number of generations.
Tim has taken his education well, as he opens his wings and moves to center stage. Naturally he's formed a supergroup of his own, consisting of Nancy Kerr, Pete Flood, Olly Knight and Colin Fletcher, signed to one of folk's foremost labels, Topic and got one of the big stages at Cambridge.
I'm not sure if Tim remembers, but I managed to miss most of his performance in 99 and backstage at Radio Two we agreed that I would be right at the front next time he appeared under his own name and he'd buy the pint afterwards. Looks like we're both about to collect
