42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Uiscedwr

The only thing that you need to know about the name, pronounced ish-ka-doore, is that it means water in Welsh and water in Irish. What you really need to know about the band is that they are a trrio of immense talent.
Anna Esslemont and Cormac Bryne are founder members of the band that won the Young Tradition Award back in 2002. Guitarist, Kevin Dempsey, joined the band in what has, until recently been to guitarists what Spinal Tap was to drummers. i.e. they haven't lasted long.
Unusually for the winners of the YOung Tradition award, Uiscedwr stayed together as a band. They released one very highly acclaimed album and things were certainly on the up.
Unfortunately, just as the rocket was about to go into orbit Anna was struck by serious illness that temporarily disrailed the project. Fortunately she's now on the mend and the band are pushing on. There's a charity tour later in the year, by way of thanks for all of the help Anna received. There's also a new album to be launched
Uiscedwr are back and well worth catching. We anticipate spending a lot of time at the club tent this year and this is one of the reasons why.

Post Festival Notes
Uiscedwr played a busking set at the launch of their album and a set in the Club Tent on the Friday night. They also managed to find time to record an interview for us. As with Rachel Unthank it was a shame they didn't get a bigger stage, but it was a set that really had people talking. The Club Tent was packed for their performance and Uiscedwr really played up to the occasion. Definitely a band to watch when they play near you.
