42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Tom Russell

Tom Russell is a singer/songwriter with a country/folk/Americana drawl. His songs have been played by the likes of Johnny Cash, Nanci Giffith and Dave Alvin, amongst many others. His songs appear in a dozen or so films and he's been on the Letterman Show a number of times.
Hailing originally for California, where he also graduated university with a degree in criminology, Tom Russell has made his home in many places, including teaching in Nigeria during the oft bloody Biafran War.
He's experienced a lot of life, which may explain why he's such a proliffic songwriter. Unlike some US songwriters that have graced the Cambridge Stage, Russell is also a consumate performer, not only in the studio, where he has delivered some 20 albums to date, but also as a performer.
I've seen him on both large and small stages and he knows his craft well enough not to be swamped by the bigger set ups or allow his presence to dwarf small venues.
Part of that may be due to his other talents as a promoter and producer. Tom Russell beings many facets with him and his performance has the potential to be a gem.
