42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Swap

There are few bands that bring together the Celtic and Norse, Swap just happen to be one and one that does it with stacks of style. Featuring Karen Tweed and Ian Carr from this side of the North Sea and Carina Normansson and Ola Backstrom from the other, Swap is easliy able to move between jigs and polkas, traditional and contemporary with just a little of the North East thrown in for good measure.
The band play with fire and enthusiasm, often drawing comparisons with their more rock 'n' roll contemporaries as well as the folk ones. They have managed to define a sound that is theirs and yet at the same time belongs to the colder parts of Europe.
They've also proved that they are no flash in the pan, folk fusion outfit, with nine years and four albums behind them. It might have been more had most members of the band not obeyed the no single band rule and spent time and effort recording with a whole host of other people.
Swap are checking out the big stages at Cambridge for the first time and we intend to be there for this one.
