42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Salsa Celtica

The last time Salsa Celtica played Cambridge back in 2002 I walked out of their set because it was a better option than staying to the end. They seemed like a band that had had a good idea, but really hadn't worked out how to deliver it. It's a problem with big bands, trying not to clutter and it's particularly difficult when you're trying to blend two different styles.
Good ideas are easy to come by. I had one about a flying car today, delivering the concept is much harder and I'd say the last time they were here they failed in that delivery. However the band have continued to work hard and having heard their most recent album I'd say that they've honed the concept to a sound that delivers the promise.
I'm really looking to see if they can now take the recorded sound into the live environment. What is making this particularly exciting for me is that making a guest appearance with the band is English Folkstress Eliza Carthy. How that will combine with the Latin and Celtic rhythms is a really intriguing prospect and it makes the band's set something I'm genuinely looking forward to catching.
