42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Ezio

Over the years I have been accused of having a vendetta against Ezio. I've made no secret of the fact that I've been constantly disappointed by the band's performances on the Cambridge stages, even when they managed to shake off the next big thing tag. I also know that this sets me at odds with a large number of people that attend the festival.
Someone suggested that it might be because I was always being told, when at Cambridge, that I was wrong and that Ezio really were fantastic. Maybe I couldn't  get past the fact they were not going to be as good as they were built up to be and if I was expecting less of them I might get a lot more.
So when Ezio played a smaller, more intimate venue around the corner from me, against my better judgement I went along looking to prove things one way or the other. One last chance, one last benefit of the doubt. The result was a little mixed. I thought that they played very well, I had that rare, for me, experience of enjoying an Ezio set. It also confirmed something else in my mind. I don't think they are capable of taking that intimancy and feeling to a bigger stage. Been there, tried it severla times, definitely not wanting t-shirt
