42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Chumbawamba (acoustic)

There’s a major US bank with a system nicknamed Chumbawamba B I wonder if either the bank or the post punk, punk folk band Chumbawamba after whom it’s named see the irony in that. Especially as Chumbawamba is actually a meaningless set of letters flying in close proximity.
The band have played Cambridge before back in 2002 when they went down a storm. Back then their booking had polarised the site, something that actually playing immediately resolved. Yes it was folk music, yes it’s a living tradition, yes it can be political and yes people do actually drink cider.
Having taken a bit of a break during 2005, though they did manage to record and release “A Singsong And A Scrap”, the band look like having a busy 2006, but then a lot of bands like to push the boat out a bit to celebrate their 20th.
Yep, that’s right, Chumbawamba are 20 and it makes you feel old just thinking about it. The good thing is that the sentiments are still there. 20 years hasn’t knocked the fight out of ‘em, just made it a different type of fighting.
I’m looking forward to this one and if it’s half as good as the last, I’m a happy bunny.
