42nd Cambridge Folk Festival

Nizlopi

Having had a number 1 single gives Nizlopi the closest thing to finding the holygrail that it seems possible for a folk act to deliver at te moment. It's something that many of folk's legendary performers have never achieved in a mainstream chart in this country.
Not that it ensures long term success. For most of folk's unexpected number ones, there's often zilch to follow it. Anyone remember the follow ups to "Day Trip To Bangor" or "Matchstalk Men"? Thought not.
One thing Nizlopi do have going for them is the enduring strength and length of the working partnership. Luke Concannon and John Parker met on a bus when they were jst 13. They've grown up with each other. They know each other's strengths and can help support each other's weaknesses. There is a strong sense of friendship that permeates the band's material. Two lads out to take on the world and have some fun doing it.
For their recent single "Girls" they launched a Girls T-Shirt competition. Nizlopi know how to create a buzz, but the important thing is that there is substance to it. The band walk the talk. This appearance will give the band a chance to prove they are no novelty act in a one phonebox town
