41st Cambridge Folk Festival

Xosé Manuel Budiño

Before I saw this year's line up, the only Galician piper I knew was Carlos Nunez, that number has just doubled.

Like Nunez, Budino, is a master of the Galician pipies, he has also mastered the Irish Uilleann Pipes. Each pipe has it's own distinct sound and it gives Xose and his band an extra dimension to work in.

The band switch between sounds that are more Iberia in origin and those of a more Celtic origin.

It's music that appeals right across the age range. Iberian acts have gone down a storm at Cambridge in recent years and there is no reason why Xose Manuel Budino shouldn't continue that drive. His sound is infectious, it sets the feet tapping and the upper body swaying. There could be some interesting guests in the set, check out the guests on his albums.

A decent sunny day to accompany the mood of this and it could be one of the surprise hits of this year.
