Martha Wainwright
When your mum's Kate McGarrigle, your Dad's Loudon Wainwright III and one of your sibling's is Rufus Wainwright, music is pretty much going to be in the blood.
In the case of Martha Wainwright, songwriting is definitely part of the same genetic make up.
Her style whilst drawing on those of other family members, is distinctive, with a bitter sweet under current.
The delivery is crystal sharp, conveying such a strength of feeling and emotion. The accompanyment is stripped back and assured, not a note is wasted. Martha Wainwright sees things as they are and can be. Her album, Bloody Mother F#cking Asshole picks it's fruit from the top of the songwriting tree.
Despite her relatively small number of releases, Martha Wainwright stands before the gates of greatness. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
POST FESTIVAL VERDICT
Martha more than lived up to expectation. She delivered a great set that all the hall marks of a star in the making. Gutted to have missed her Club Tent appearance. Hopefully she will be back with a Main Stage appearance in the not too distant future. The set on the Radio Two Stage was amongst my festival favourites.
