41st Cambridge Folk Festival

Laura Cantrell

An unexpected last minute addition to the bill, Laura Cantrell appears as a replacement for Lucinda Williams who has has to cancel due to an ear infection.

Laura made her festival debut two years ago on the back of an increasingly successful album career.

On that occasion, she nearly brought the house down having emerged into a highly confident performer that had evolved out of the shy singer that appeared alongside They Might Be Giants

Like Williams, Cantrell is a singer songwriter with a country edge and a gutsy narrative. She writes and performs songs that reward you for listening.

It's an ill wind that blows no good, and Laura is definitely in the box marked good.

POST FESTIVAL VERDICT

I missed her set so unable to comment, but I did hear from a trusted source that her rendition of  "When The Roses Bloom Again" was one of his festival highlights
