Jimmy Webb

Whilst best known as a songwriter, in fact he is an inductee into the Songwriting Hall Of Fame, Jimmy Webb is also a pretty good performer.
He does, however, suffer from the problems that afflict a lot of people in his position, people remember his songs through those other artists. Galveston is a good example. Jimmy does a mean version of his own song, but he's not Glen Campbell
A wall full of awards and plaques pay tribute to his undoubted ability as a writer. His performance work does not get the recognition it deserves, which is a shame because he does perform well as a series of sell out tours testify.
Arguably his voice is past it's best, but it's not something that's held back Dylan and there's no reason why it should handicap Webb. When the focus is on the strength of the song, you can still pull off a little weakness in the voice.
With his skills as writer, arranger, producer, you can expect him to have everything set right for his performance. A set that tantalises for everything it could be.
POST FESTIVAL VERDICT
An informative interview. The Guy knows how to write songs. Unfortunately just Jimmy at the piano was't the most captivating thing at Cambridge.
