Idlewild

Recently voted 'third best band in Scotland' by a public poll, Idlewild are making the debut performance at Cambridge an acoustic one.
Following in the tracks of bands like the Levellers and Chumbawumba, Idlewild will bring their particular brand of energy and performance to the Cambridge Stage.
It's the blending in of bands like this to the Cambridge mix, that have kept the festival vibrant and appealing to folk/roots fans of all ages.
Idlewild's story is what music's all about. The debut release was part financed by dipping into student loans of the band members. This was during a period of hard gigging in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, durring which they learnt their craft as performers.
Recording was learnt at indies such as Fierce Panda before the band stepped up to the world of majors and full employment as musicians. This is not a tell of insipid fifteen minute tv heroes. Though they are one of the few bands at this year's festival to have appeared on Top Of The Pops.
This is a festival band of the finest quality and is potentially one of the must see performances this year
POST FESTIVAL VERDICT
A must see performance indeed. The Radio Two Stage was packed in anticipation. The band had bolstered their numbers, Roddy had performed a number with Kate Rusby as a warm up. They went down a storm. The average age of the audience was lower than for a lot of sets, but that just seemed to boost the atmosphere. Security was increased, but discrete. Idlewild showed how bands should perform acoustic sets. Top draw.
