The Duhks

With a sound that belies their looks, Canadian band The Duhks have a very old time dancehall feel about them.
There's something special about dance music that also has a fantastic lyrical quality to it. It seems to work on so many levels. Even when you're concentrating on the lyric, you can be carried away by the song.
That said there's more to their sound than old timey, the band also have a sweet underlying soul feel on some of their tracks. The band have a real understanding of texture and tempo in their music.
The instrumentation is quite traditional, the attitude sure ain't. Then there's the vocal, it sounds like apple cake and sour cream.
The Duhks are a band with a their feet rooted in the past and a great looking future in front of them.
POST FESTIVAL VERDICT
This was my band of the festival. They just had so many strings to their bow. Solid tunes and songs, some sung in English, others French, fantsic arrangements, The Duhks(pronounced Ducks) really do have everything going for them. The record stall had a number of their albums, both as a band and solo, that I'd not seen before. The Duhks came, the saw, the conquered the stagesand sold good volumes of merchandise, so to me. Keep your eyes out for this one. You heard it here first.
