Blazin' Fiddles
Blazin Fiddles are amongst the best that the Highlands and Islands have to offer. Currently the band are a seven piece, featuring, Catriona MacDonald, Allan Henderson, Andy Thornburn, Marc Clement, Bruce MacGregor, Iain MacFarlane and Aidan O'Rouke.
Many of the band can be found performing in other bands when not touring as part of Blazin Fiddles. That said the band release their third album, "The Magnificent Seven", at the festival
As well as playing with the band last time she was here, Catriona also did the fiddle workshop. Not having a fiddle was not going to be an excuse for failing to join in, so I, and about thirty others ended up being taught air fiddle to the accompaniment of those that did have them. It was one of the best workshops I've done at Cambridge.
This is a truly awesome musical combination that pulls in some fine dance tunes and are a great way of getting rid of those surplus calories. Blazin Fiddles really do set the house on fire.
POST FESTIVAL VERDICT
An album launch and two blistering performances put Blazin' Fiddles high on the list of top festival performers. There may be other fiddle bands, but this is the master and mistress of it all. Blazin' Fiddles left scorch marks on two stages. Their last visit to the festival was celebrated with a memorial t-shirt. Their post show session, somewhat quieter. Absolutely storming.
