Beth Orton
Beth Orton is one of those artists that get two reactions when you mention her name.
Reaction one is a blank stare as the individual makes a desperate attempt to try and place the name. Reaction two is an appreciative smile followed by a phrase like "Isn't it a shame she hasn't had the success it deserves."
Beth is one of those artists that gets lots of critcal acclaim, musicians love her, writers love her, performers love her, producers seem to love her, it's just that for some reason she hasn't managed to reach the mass audience she deserves.
It's been a few years since Beth played Cambridge. Back then I was fortunate to be part of a conversation with Beth and Jools Holland. It highlighted that Beth is an artists that knows her craft, not just how to play, but it's roots and traditions.
