Martyn Bennet last appeared at
the festival a couple of years back. This year, he's performing
as Martyn Bennet's Hardland. His music is an 'innovative' blend
of house and roots that has been credited with bringing a new
audience to folk.
Certainly when he last appeared at the festival, he seemed to bring a younger crowd into the tent, but more importantly most were wearing weekend passes. It might have been that some had come prmarily to see Martyn, or simply older folk fans were at Stage 2 or the folk tent, either way, he certainly proved a hit with those that saw his set.
There is little middle ground with Martyn's music, most people I know either rave about it or hate it, as for the folkies that think guitar is too modern an instrument for real folk, well they'd better prepare themselves for a stroke.
